Renowned neurologist and author Oliver Wolf Sacks died on 30 August 2015 in New York, the USA. He was 82.
Compared to his career as a practitioner of neurology and an academician he was better known as the author of best-selling books on the grey matter like Migraine, Awakenings, The Mind’s eye, etc.

Contributions and achievements of Oliver Wolf Sacks
• He received his medical degree from the Queen’s College, Oxford of the UK in 1960.
• He was an instructor and later clinical professor of neurology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the USA from 1966 to 2007.
• He worked at the New York University School of Medicine from 1992 to 2007.
• His first book was Migraine (1970).
• His second book Awakenings (1973) gave an autobiographical account of his efforts to help people with encephalitis lethargica regain proper neurological function.
• Among other important works include An Anthropoligist on Mars, Hallucinations and On the Move (his autobiography).
• He was awarded the Lewis Thomas Prize for Writing about Science in 2001.
• In 2008, he was conferred with the Order of the British Empire/Sir (CBE) honour for services to literature.
